Wallpapers of the week: snow frost

WOTW snow frost splash

Continuing our simple nature series, including mountains and lakes, the next images feature winter snow and frost. Ending November in the northern hemisphere means winter is coming. This year, it seems winter is arriving more quickly than previous years. Living in the south eastern US, I experienced my first snow in early November.

With Thanksgiving passed and temperatures plummeting, it is time to switch the Lock screen over to match the occasion. For an unknown reason, winter snowy wallpapers are my favorite genre. Consequently, find four wallpaper images below.... Read the rest of this post here

In case you were too busy trying to burn the calories you gulped down over Thanksgiving, you might have heard that a new jailbreak for iOS 8.1.1 was released over the weekend. The TaiG jailbreak created the surprise, and to be honest, we’re still trying to wrap our heads around this release. But we’re not going to complain.

Apple recommends you do not jail-break. Really.

Home screen jailbreak theme status bar

While jailbreaking an iPhone is legal in the US, Apple has always clearly stood against it, warning that it may void your warranty. You can’t criticize Apple for this policy because it makes lots of sense. Why would they try to fix an issue if the device is running unauthorized code on it, right?

Reddit user DurianNinja found an interesting paragraph tucked inside Apple’s retail store purchase policies that shows what I feel is interesting wording about jailbreaking an iOS device:... Read the rest of this post here

A few observations about the TaiG iOS 8.1.1 jailbreak

TaiG Observations

In what seems to be the rule more than the exception these days, a jailbreak was released out of the blue with basically no prior warning, catching us all by surprise. It’s great to be surprised by something so random, but it’s also a tad disconcerting and tends to send us scrambling to dissect details and separate fact from fiction.

As you’ve seen already, we’ve personally tested out the TaiG jailbreak tool for iOS 8.1.1. Should you take the plunge now? Here’s what we know thus far.... Read the rest of this post here

How to jailbreak iOS 8.1.1 on Windows

taig

iOS 8.1.1 is now officially jailbroken, and it’s one of the easiest jailbreaks that I’ve experienced in my long history of jailbreaking. As we first noted, the TaiG team, not the Pangu team, is responsible for the iOS 8.1.1 jailbreak, which was released for Windows users early this morning.

I’ve personally tested out the TaiG jailbreak tool for iOS 8.1.1, and can report that it works. In fact, it installs Cydia straight out of the box, and it’s super easy to follow along, even though the tool hasn’t been translated to English. How to disable SpringBoard rotation on the iPhone 6 Plus

One of the big advantages of the iPhone 6 Plus when compared to the iPhone 6 is the 6 Plus’ ability to rotate into landscape mode while on the SpringBoard. Home screen rotation also works with smaller devices that use upscaling tweaks like LittleBrother or Upscale.

Work in progress tweak makes CarPlay work without an external display

CarPlay External

Renowned jailbreak developer Adam Bell is working on an interesting project that makes it possible to use CarPlay without the normal external display requirements. The tweak, which is currently a work in progress, will make it so that users can reap the benefits of the simplified CarPlay interface, without the need of buying an expensive CarPlay enabled head unit.

The possibilities for such a tweak are extremely interesting. For example, you could, in theory, mount an iPad in your car and use it instead of using your stock head unit. The benefits of using an iPad are multifaceted, with one of the main benefit being the better responsiveness of the iPad’s capacitive touchscreen over the resistive touchscreens found in many head units.

Bell has created a video to showcase his work thus far and it looks very promising. Step inside to see the preview, and find more details about this ambitious project.... Read the rest of this post here

New report says deep organizational issues are hampering iCloud progress

icloud photo stream

A new report is out today claiming that Apple’s iCloud ambitions are being stymied by a wealth of organizational issues. Jessica Lessin of The Information spoke with roughly a dozen current and former Apple employees, who say these issues are holding up releases and complicating products.

Lessin uses the work-in-progress iCloud photo project—codenamed Hyperion—as an example. First unveiled in 2011, Steve Jobs’ vision for seamless photo-syncing has yet to be fully realized. iCloud Photo Library is a step in the right direction, but it missed the initial iOS 8 release and is still in beta.... The ZAGGsparq 1220 will give you one extra charge and comes will only one USB port, while the ZAGGsparq 3100 will give you no less than two extra charges for your iPhone and comes with two USB ports allowing you to charge two devices at the same time.

Both variations have been heavily discounted by 40%, significantly reducing the price to only $23.99 for the Spar 1220 and $41.99 for the Sparq 3100. ... Read the rest of this post here

Storyframes greetings card app comes right on time for the holidays

Felt Storyframes 1

I’ve been a fan of the Felt Cards app for iPad for years now. I use it to send thank you cards, birthday cards, and the occasional Halloween greeting to my more obsessed friends. The thing that makes the Felt Cards app so special is that you write your own words in your own handwriting inside the blank card, and then staff prints it and mails the physical copy by hand.

This week, the company launched a holiday-based picture card app on the iPhone called Felt Storyframes. Now, you can send personalized well wishes to all your friends and family, complete with pictures, decorative overlays, and your own handwritten notes.... Read the rest of this post here

Space Age 3

In the 1990s, point-and-click adventure games were really hitting their stride on desktop computers. It may have been the only time when there was a chance that PC gaming had the potential to overtake console gaming in popularity. Now mobile gaming is filling that spot.

We’ve got an in-depth game review of Space Age for your reading pleasure today.... Read the rest of this post here

New ‘Sync Solver’ app sends Fitbit data to Apple’s Health app

iOS 8 (Health, teaser 001)

In October, Fitbit announced that it had no plans of integrating its activity trackers or software with Apple’s Health app. This means that if you have a Fitbit Flex or other device, the data it gathers will not be shared with Health, crippling its attempt to be your fitness data dashboard.

But a new app launched this week in the App Store that aims to change this. It’s called Sync Solver, and it allows Fitbit wearers to track all of the important data collected by their wearables within the Health app, without ever having to use the standalone, dedicated Fitbit application. ... iH8sn0w shows off untethered iOS 8.1.1 jailbreak

ios 8-1-1 jailbreak

Well known iOS hacker iH8sn0w has posted a new video on his YouTube channel of an iPad 3 (J2a model) running an untethered iOS 8.1.1 jailbreak. This is significant because 8.1.1 patched 3 of the Pangu team’s exploits, effectively killing the latest jailbreak.

As usual, just because we have proof that a firmware can be jailbroken, doesn’t mean that we’re guaranteed to see a public release anytime soon. In fact, it’s worth pointing out that iH8sn0w has in the past demonstrated jailbreaks that never saw the light of day.... Read the rest of this post here

Rooster Teeth vs Zombiens Invades the App Store

RT vs Zombiens 3

The whole “aliens versus zombies” thing is way overrated. We all know that zombies would win. They can’t die and they turn you into one of them with just a single bite. If they were fighting aliens, well, they would turn them into “Zombiens.” Or, at least that’s what the protagonist of this game has dubbed them

Rooster Teeth vs Zombiens is a survival game starring the cast members of Rooster Teeth Studios (the guys that created the hilarious web series Red vs. Blue). If you want the RT cast to stay alive, you’d better learn how to fight.... Read the rest of this post here
