Trademark filings discovered for Healthbook, HealthKit and iResearch

wwdc_2014_banner

With Apple’s WWDC keynote now just a few days away, speculation regarding what the company will announce on Monday is heating up. We saw the iOS 8 and OS X banners earlier today, and now we have some mysterious trademark filings.

The folks over at MacRumors have discovered several trademark applications related to the term ‘Healthbook,’ which is a new app rumored for iOS 8. The documents don’t say they were filed by Apple, but looking at the clues, it’s fairly obvious…... Read the rest of this post here

OS X Yosemite could be unveiled at WWDC on Monday

osx

Apple is continuing to decorate the Moscone Center this afternoon ahead of next week’s Worldwide Developers Conference. Earlier today we saw water-covered banners go up for iOS 8, and now we have an image of the inaugural OS X 10.10 banner.

As you can see in the image above, the sign consists of a large X in front of a mountainous background. It’s believed this is actually the ‘El Capitan’ rock formation in Yosemite national park, which would suggest Apple is calling the 10.10 update ‘Yosemite.’... Read the rest of this post here

The banner above (Via The Verge) shows an image of what appears to be a section of Yosemite National Park in California, as pointed out by our own Michael Steeber:

We perviously revealed many of the new features and redesigned UI elements planned for OS X 10.10, which Apple is expected to show off for the first time on Monday alongside iOS 8.

1TapVolume makes audio adjustment a snap

I know what you might be thinking right now. Why would we be spotlighting such an ugly looking app, right? This is one of those occasions where looks don’t matter. It’s ability that counts, especially in the case of this volume control app.

FlipCam: a quicker way to switch between the front and rear-facing camera

flipcam

FlipCam is an extremely simple jailbreak tweak that does one thing and one thing only. FlipCam allows you to quickly switch between the front-facing camera and rear-facing camera using a long press on the camera viewfinder.

At times I find that the button used to switch between views is in a difficult to reach spot, because it’s located in the upper right-hand corner of the Camera app interface. FlipCam makes it easy to switch between each camera view, because the viewfinder is always within reach. Take a glance at our video walkthrough after the break for more information.... StatusPeek: replace the Notification Center grabber with the status bar

StatusPeek before after

StatusPeek is an interesting new Cydia release that does something pretty cool. It allows you to replace the little grabber icon—the thing that appears when invoking Notification Center while in a full-screen app—with something useful: the status bar.

In essence, StatusPeek allows you to quickly look at the contents of the stock status bar—the bar the normally resides at the top of the screen, which contains the time, signal strength, etc.—while within a full-screen application.

In a default state, full-screen apps remove the status bar to allow for more screen real estate, so having the status bar more easily at ones disposal makes perfect sense. Check out our video walkthrough inside to see how StatusPeek works.... Read the rest of this post here

Photo of alleged iPhone 6 back cover surfaces

Back-Cover 2

While we’ve seen a number of physical mockups and case leaks for the iPhone 6, we haven’t seen very much in the way of actual components. There was the front panel, the tray full of batteries, and this recently-leaked backlight panel, but that’s pretty much it.

We’re adding another part to the pile tonight, though. Macfixit Australia says it has obtained what is believed to be the back cover of an iPhone 6. How to make iOS do a barrel roll

BarrelRoll Cydia

If you’re my age (32) then you’re probably very familiar with where the “Do a Barrel Roll” meme originated. It was from Star Fox 64, a game for the Nintendo 64. In it, one of the protagonists instructs you to “Do a Barrel” roll, which allowed you to miraculously dodge hails of bullets.

The phrase has since been eternalized by means of the Internet, and even Google got in on the fun with a hidden feature built into its search. iPhone users can now make iOS do a barrel roll as well. It’s possible by means of a recently developed tweak by Ryan Petrich.

The tweak, which is appropriately entitled BarrelRoll, allows you to make your iPhone do a Barrel Roll on command. Have a look at our video walkthrough for the full scoop.... Read the rest of this post here
